Family frustrated at Rab failure to place probe report again
With the law enforcement agencies' repeated failure to submit the probe report over the murder of journalist couple Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi, a Dhaka court yesterday once again asked Rab to submit the report by next January 18.
Metropolitan Magistrate Md Yunus Khan passed the order as Wares Ali Miah, an assistant superintendent of police of Rapid Action Battalion and also the investigation officer of the case, failed to submit it by yesterday as per its order.
General Recording Official (GRO) at the court Altaf Hossain said the IO did not submit any probe report or any application for his failure yesterday.
The elite force started probing the case around two months after the gruesome killings on February 11, 2012, Earlier, police and detectives investigated it. The submission date of the probe report has been differed at least 36 times due to such failure, said court sources.
Nowsher Alam Roman, younger brother of Runi, yesterday told The Daily Star that they were doubtful whether Rab was investigating the murders.
"We are very upset about the investigation process. Rab even did not contact us for about one year," he said, adding that there was no development in the investigation.
Sagar, news editor of private TV station Maasranga, and his wife Runi, senior reporter of ATN Bangla, were killed at their rented flat in the capital's West Rajabazar. Their only son Mahir Sarowar Megh, then 5, was home at that time.
At least eight persons, including two security guards of the residence and "family friend" Tanveer Rahman, have been arrested. Tanveer was later freed on bail.
