Gayeshwar complains about fund raising in his name on Facebook
BNP Standing Committee Member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy yesterday said an "organised group" was creating confusion and trying to extort money from some Bangladeshi expatriates opening a Facebook account impersonating him using his national identity card.
Addressing a press briefing at BNP's Nayapaltan central office, he urged law enforcers to trace and bring to book the swindlers based on a general diary he lodged with Keraniganj Police Station. He said the frauds were now deceiving people in various ways misusing information and communication technology. "Many people, not only me, are falling victims to the organised gangs," he said.
He alleged that a Bangladeshi expatriate in Japan, Akbor Hossain, and another in the UK, Fazlur Rahman, informed him of the incident.
Gayeshwar said he has only one Facebook account which he did not regularly log on to. "I have no other Facebook ID...I hope those who have created Facebook accounts using my name will deactivate those from today. Otherwise, I will be forced to take legal action," he threatened.
