Govt to ask high-rise owners to install CCTV cameras
In the wake of some recent firebomb attacks reportedly from the tops of buildings, the government has decided to ask owners of high-rise buildings to install close-circuit television (CCTV) cameras.
The entire capital will gradually be brought under the surveillance of CCTV cameras, he said.
Talking to reporters after a meeting with top officials of law enforcement agencies at the Secretariat, State Minister for Home Asaduzzaman Khan said it has been decided in the meeting that the Home Ministry will ask the owners of city scrappers to install CCTV cameras so that no untoward incidents can be carried out in the surrounding areas.
The meeting was held to discuss the security measures ahead of the celebrations of the Independence Day on March 26.
It has been noticed in recent times that several crude bombs were tossed using building tops, the junior minister mentioned.
If the owners of the high-rise buildings fail to install the CCTV cameras, they will be held responsible if any untoward incidents take place in front of their buildings, he warned.
Asked whether the owners of high-rise buildings will require the installation of CCTV cameras only ahead of the Independence Day celebrations, Asaduzzaman replied in the negative and added that the provisions will be made for ensuring overall security in the capital against any untoward incident.
Asaduzzaman also said the Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) and the Dhaka Metropolitan Police have already made separate assessments of the number of high-rise buildings in the capital requiring the CCTV cameras.
