Star Digital Report

The skeletal remains recovered earlier today evening from Bayezid Bostami shrine's pond belong to a nine-year-old who had been missing since Monday noon.

The deceased was identified as Nur Alam, 9, son of Nur Mohammed, hailing from Habiganj, our Chattogram correspondent reports.

He used to live with his family at a slum near the Bayezid Bostami Mazar, said police.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Abu Bakar Siddique of CMP North Zone told The Daily Star that police scrutinised the footage from a CCTV at the pond and found that Nur Alam had drowned after slipping into the water while he was feeding the fish and turtles in the pond around 1:20pm.

"Shrine caretaker told police that there are huge carnivorous fish in the pond, including Channa and Pangas, along with other fish and the turtles which weigh around 20 to 30 kilogrammes each. After falling into the pond, the boy was eaten by the fish," added the ADC.

The body was sent to CMCH morgue for autopsy and an unnatural death case was filed with Bayezid Bostami Police station

ADC Abu Bakar Siddique told The Daily Star that locals first spotted a human skull in the pond at around 4:00pm and informed police.

Later, other parts of the skeleton were found floating in a corner of the pond just before iftar, added the ADC.
