Inqilab journo sent to jail over 'false' report against AIG
A Dhaka court yesterday sent a special correspondent of the Dainik Inqilab to jail in a case filed for publishing a "false report" against an assistant inspector general (AIG) of police.
Judge KM Shamsul Alam of the Cyber Crimes Tribunal passed the order when Sakhawat Hossain surrendered before it, seeking bail.
The case was filed with Wari Police Station by AIG Proloy Kumar Joardar on August 18, 2014.
According to the case statement, the report accused the AIG of exercising influence in the name of the prime minister.
On March 20, 2015, the tribunal issued arrest warrants for the daily's Editor AMM Bahauddin and Special Correspondent Sakhawat Hossain taking cognisance of the charge sheet submitted on December 31.
