IUB orientation for Spring 2020 semester held
Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) warmly welcomed the newly enrolled undergraduate students of Spring 2020 semester through an orientation ceremony held on January 18, 2019 at IUB campus in Bashundhara, Dhaka.
Students got enrolled in five different schools namely, School of Business; School of Engineering & Computer Science; School of Environmental Science & Management; School of Liberal Arts & Social Sciences and; School of Life Sciences, according to a press release issued in this regard.
Rubana Huq, President, BGMEA was the Chief Guest of the program. In her speech, she emphasized on the higher education and empowerment of women. DrHuq mentioned that the participation of women in higher education has increased, many women are becoming professionals, but this is not enough.
An educated woman can uphold the rights not only of other women but also for entire mankind and play significant role in politics, economy, culture and every other sector of development, she added. She also emphasized on morality and basic rules of human lives to practice for succeeding steadfastly.
Welcoming the newly enrolled students and the parents, Prof Milan Pagon, Vice Chancellor (Acting), IUB, heartily thanked the parents & students for choosing IUB towards crafting their lives by coping with new opportunities. Prof Pagon advised all students to work hard, possess “never give up attitude”, be passionate on what they want to pursue and be employable instead of looking for typical jobs.
A Matin Chowdhury, Chairman, Board of Trustees, IUB also spoke to the students & parents at the program. He emphasized on building students’ morality. Newly enrolled students will display strong work, sheer commitments and take the ultimate leadership to run this country, he said. He urged the students to gather best possible knowledge from home & abroad and eventually serve this nation and its people who they have huge obligation towards.
Khandker Md Iftekhar Haider, treasurer; Md Anwarul Islam, registrar; Dr Md Aminul Karim, dean, School of Business; Dr Mohammed Anwer, dean, School of Engineering and Computer Science; Dr Abdul Khaleque, dean, School of Environmental Science and Management; Professor Imtiaz A Hussain, dean (Acting), School of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences; Professor Shah M Faruque, dean (In-charge), School of Life Sciences of IUB were also present on the occasion.
The event was organised by the Admissions & Financial Aid Office at IUB and was conducted by its Deputy Director Lima Choudhury. IUB Music & Dance Clubs entertained the whole audience with their colorful performances. Alongside, six students were awarded who topped in the admission tests. They will also receive scholarships while studying at IUB.
Later, the newly enrolled students visited and got oriented by different schools, departments, laboratories, library and other divisions of IUB. The day-long program concluded with concert.
