Jamalpur gets three police helpdesks for female victims

Staff Correspondent

Three helpdesks, headed by female sub-inspectors (SI), were inaugurated yesterday in separate police stations of Jamalpur district as female victims of violence often feel uncomfortable talking to male police.

Under a project of the home ministry and UNFPA, these pilot helpdesks are expected to provide gender sensitive service including legal, medical and psychological support, said Nazrul Islam, assistant inspector general of police (AIG).

The helpdesks, giving service round the clock, are housed in isolated rooms on the premises of Jamalpur Sadar, Bakshiganj and Madarganj police stations.
