JS body for transparent, faster wheat import
The Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Food has recommended that the food directorate takes initiatives for making the process of the import of wheat transparent and faster.
At its 14th meeting, the committee also recommended taking necessary steps to purchase wheat within stipulated time from the countries producing quality wheat.
It also recommended carrying out pre-shipment inspection of wheat in coordination with international agents, says a press release.
Committee chairman Md Abdul Wadud presided over the meeting while members of the committee Food Minister Md Quamrul Islam, Md Hasibur Rahman Swapan, Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh and Shirin Naim attended it. State minister for food Nuruzzaman Ahmed joined the meeting at special invitation.
The meeting also recommended taking steps to complete implementation of all the projects under the food ministry.
It also suggested formulation of rules and regulations to expedite the recruitment process in the ministry.
It also recommended appointment of legal experts to maintain quality of food and send reports to the standing committee.
It also suggested appointment of efficient chemists at different silos for modernisation of all laboratories.
Food secretary AM Badruddoza and other high officials of the food ministry and the parliament were present.
