JU teachers against 63 in Senate
Some Jahangirnagar University teachers yesterday protested possible selection of 63 teachers and officials, whose tenure expired two years ago, for the Senate at its annual meeting on Saturday.
They demanded scrapping of the issue from the upcoming meeting agenda, holding of the postponed Senate election and making of the JU finance committee members from the elected Senate body.
In this regard, they handed over a memorandum to Vice Chancellor Prof Farzana Islam.
Prof ATM Atiqur Rahman of history, Prof Shima Haque of archeology, and Prof Naim Sultan of government and politics, were, among others, present there.
Prof Atique told The Daily Star that the VC assured them of looking into their demands.
The last election to the Senate was held in 2011 and the next one was supposed to be held in 2014, campus sources said.
However, the Senate can be run by its previous members under Jahangrinagar University Act-1973.
