Large amount of expired Tang seized in Ctg

Three shrimp traders in Barisal fined for fraud

In separate drives yesterday, police and a mobile court in Chittagong city seized a huge amount of expired Tang, a brand of powdered beverage, and fined eight shop owners for various irregularities while a Barisal mobile court destroyed shrimps mixed with expired fruit jelly.

Tipped off, police seized 15,000 packets and jars of expired Tang and a machine used for pasting new expiry date labels from a storehouse of Sajib Group at Rubi Gate of Bayezid area.

Police said the expired items were gathered there for pasting labels of new expiry dates.

In Chawkbazar, a court led by an executive magistrate of the Chittagong district administration fined a vegetable trader and a chicken trader Tk 5,000 each for not hanging price lists and underweight products.

On Momin road, a chicken seller was fined Tk 10,000 and five other grocers and another seller were fined Tk 5,000 each.

In Barisal city, a mobile court of the Barisal district administration destroyed 3kg of shrimp mixed with expired fruit jelly and fined three traders for putting jelly in the shrimps to increase their weight at Port Road kitchen market.

In Chawkbazar area of the city, Gharoa Hotel and Restaurant was fined Tk 3,000 for not maintaining hygiene.

Meanwhile, Bakery of Chaker Pool was fined Tk 2,000 for selling date expired items and Shanti Das Poultry Tk 1,000 for selling items without using weighing scales, court sources said.
