Man killed in road accident in Dhaka

A man was killed and a woman was injured after being hit by a bus at Shahbagh in Dhaka this afternoon.

The accident happened around 3:30pm when a Dhaka Paribahan bus travelling from Gazipur to Motijheel lost control and hit the road divider at Shahbagh intersection, leaving the two injured.

The man, aged around 30, was announced dead by doctor on duty after the injured were rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital immediately following the accident. The identity of the deceased is yet to be known, said Inspector Mojammel Haque, in-charge at Dhaka Medical College Hospital Police Camp.

The injured woman, Amena Begum, 50, is presently under treatment at the hospital, he also said.

The driver of the bus Nabab Ali, 50, and the helper Joynal Abedin, 30, were handed over to the police and hospitalised after being beaten by the mob following the accident, the police official added.
