Our Correspondent, Savar

Over half of the child labourers in the municipal area and three unions of Savar Sadar upazila, outside the capital, are involved in hazardous works, said a survey of Child Protection Monitoring Committee (CPMC) and Village Education Resource Centre (VERC) yesterday.

Md Abdul Halim, executive director of VERC, a non-government organisation working for educating child labourers, said half of the 6,500 child labourers are working in cotton or packaging factories, automobile repair workshops, bakeries, and brick fields in Savar municipality, and Pathalia, Tetuljhora and Dhamsona unions.

At a press conference in Savar Press Club, the CPMC, a voluntary committee working in Savar, and VERC informed that in 2015 they enrolled about 600 child labourers at 24 non-formal schools.
