Meena Day observed

The country observed Meena Day yesterday with a theme against child marriage.

On the occasion, the Directorate of Primary Education organised a programme in the capital's LGED Bhaban.

Addressing the event, Primary and Mass Education Minister Mustafizur Rahman said the cartoon character, Meena, has influenced social life in the country.

He urged for more character like Meena as a symbol of protest against wrongdoings in society.

Edouard Beigbeder, country representative of Unicef; Fayzul Kabir, additional secretary to the primary and mass education ministry; and Md Alamgir, director general of Primary Education Department, among others, were present.

The event was supposed to be held on September 24 but was postponed due to Eid-ul-Azha holidays.

A cultural programme and a Muppet show by children were also hosted.
