A teenage domestic help died after falling from the rooftop of a five-storey under-construction building as she had been missing for a while on her way back home along with her employers from a wedding ceremony on Chittagong city's Hazari Lane on Thursday night.

Bulbuli, 14, of the district's Fatickchhari upazila, had been working at the house of Bimal Das, 75, for six years, said police.

Bimal along with his wife Panna Dhar, 67, daughter Sumi Das, an MBA student, and Bulbuli joined the ceremony at a community centre near their house, said Sub-inspector Golam Faruk of Kotwali Police Station.

The family were not worried when they did not see Bulbuli as she was familiar with the way, Faruk quoted Panna as saying. Soon after that, they came to know from locals that the girl jumped from the building, the SI further quoted the woman. Bloodstained Bulbuli was taken to Chittagong Medical College Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries around 2:00am yesterday.

Panna, who was detained along with Sumi, during primary interrogation said the workers of the under-construction building might have pushed her off, said the SI.

"But we came to know that there was no worker at that time," said the police official, adding that they were investigating the incident as the death was mysterious to them.

No case was filed till last evening.
