Obituary

Dr Zahirul Islam, a freedom fighter and an agriculturist, died in Canada yesterday.

Dr Islam was born at Paharpur in Muradnagar of Comilla on August 21, 1951.

He fought against the Pakistani occupation army under sector no-2 in Dhaka in 1971.

He wrote books titled "Ekattorer Guerrilla" and "Muktijuddhe Major Haider o Tar Byiogantok Bidai" on his experience during the Liberation War.

Dr Islam, also a scientist at Bangladesh Rice Research Institute, and International Rice Research Institute, authored "Rice Pests of Bangladesh: Their Ecology and Management".
