Rival BCL factions at CU sue each other

Two factions of now dissolved Bangladesh Chhatra League unit at Chittagong University sued each other on Friday over Thursday's clashes between the two on the campus.

Mohammad Mohsin, an activist of campus based group Banglar Mukh, filed a case with Hathazari Police Station against 24 members of Sixty Nine, a faction based on shuttle train.

In the case, he named 14 including the dissolved committee's finance secretary Abu Kaiser Rony and activists Ariful, Tipu and Tamjid, said Inspector (investigation) Md Salah Uddin.

Suruj Haldar of Sixty Nine lodged the other case accusing 25 of Banglar Mukh naming 13 including Soumen, Rashedul Islam Jisan and Sumon, he said.

Both the groups are Chittagong City Corporation Mayor-elect AJM Nasir Uddin's followers.

On Thursday, at least eight students and a policeman were injured while a journalist and a train operator assaulted during intermittent clashes between the two groups over establishing supremacy.

The CU authorities formed a three-member committee, headed by law department Dean Prof Abdullah Al Faruk to investigate the incident, said Proctor Siraj-Ud-Doullah.
