Road crashes kill five including 9-year-old

Five people, including a nine-year-old boy, were killed and another was injured in road accidents in five districts yesterday.

In Joypurhat, Maruf Hossain, 9, son of Al Mahmud, of Sonamukhi village was killed when a three-wheeler hit him in front of Sonamukhi Lengarh Madrasa in Akkelpur upazila.

Maruf, a class-one student of the madrasa, died on the spot, said police.

In Natore, two Brac officials were killed when their motorcycle collided head-on with a bus on Natore-Bogra highway in Chugram area of Singra upazila.

The deceased were Habibur Rahman, 40, of Gaibandha and Ismail Hossain, 42, of Chapainawabganj. Habibur was an accountant and Ismail was a programme assistant of Bamihal branch of Brac.

In Chittagong, Nurul Alam Bala, 35, of Kolagaon area was killed and another person was injured when a CNG-run auto-rickshaw carrying them collided head-on with a pickup-van on Chittagong-Cox's Bazar highway in Manasha Choumohoni area of Patiya upazila.

In Jamalpur, Safor Ali, 70, of Madan Gupal village was killed as a human-hauler ran him over on Balijuri-Vatara road in Junail area of Madarganj upazila.
