Shawkat Mahmud remanded again
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's adviser Shawkat Mahmud yesterday was shown arrested in four more arson cases filed for damaging and torching of vehicles in the capital's Motijheel and Paltan in February this year.
Metropolitan Magistrate Md Maruf Hossain granted a four-day remand after police produced Shawkat before it with a forty-day remand prayer.
The court also rejected his four bail petitions after his lawyer moved those.
The former president of the Jatiya Press Club was arrested in the capital's Panthapath on August 18.
He was put on a three-day remand on August 22 in a case filed over the death of a private car driver in an arson attack in January.
The next day, police showed him arrested in eight more arson cases lodged with Paltan and Motijheel police stations. On August 24, he was remanded for the second time, this time for four days, in four arson cases. He now faces at least 10 arson cases. The same court yesterday placed Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal President Rajib Ahsan on a two-day remand in connection with two arson cases filed with Motijheel Police Station in February this year.
