Social security strategy unveiled for next 5yrs
The government yesterday unveiled National Social Security Strategy (NSSS) to implement the Seventh Five Year Plan (SFYP) and the Vision-2021 to address the problems of poverty, vulnerability and marginalization.
Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury unveiled the cover of NSSS-2015 at a ceremony in the National Economic Council (NEC) in city's Sher-e-Bangla Nagar.
General Economic Division (GED) of Planning Commission and the Cabinet Division in collaboration with UK's Department of International Development (DFID) and UNDP Bangladesh formulated the strategy.
In his presentation, GED member Dr Shamsul Alam said the core of the strategy is a lifecycle approach looking at the particular needs people have over their entire life, benefiting mothers and children, youths, vulnerable working-age group, the elderly and persons with disabilities.
Speaking on the occasion, the Speaker said NSSS is a comprehensive initiative for eliminating poverty.
She said the development partners are playing a significant role alongside the government for the development of backward segment of population as well as elimination of poverty. Planning Minister Mustafa Kamal who chaired the ceremony said the government has formulated the NSSS to tackle the risk of the lifecycle of the vulnerable and marginalized. He said the government is determined to eliminate poverty by 2030.
