The students of Barisal Government Women's College on Tuesday formed a human chain before Ashwini Kumar Hall in the city, protesting against their hostel fee hike.

The students said the authorities gave them a notice a week ago of increasing the monthly hostel fee, from June 2015, from Tk 4,300 to Tk 4,700, which is already double than that of Govt BM College.

Their demands include the fees be fixed under the guidelines of national university, and the 450 seats in the hostel, Kobi Sufia Kamal Chhatri Nibas,be increased for the 5,000 students of the women's college.

Enayet Hossain, principal of the college, said increase in electricity and other maintenance charges forced the authorities to increase the hostel fees.
