‘They should be socially boycotted’

The High Court yesterday observed that those who harbour child molesters should be socially boycotted.

The court said this while hearing a bail petition by Abdur Rashid Mohammad Yousuf, principal of a madrasa in Laxmipur, in a case filed for torturing a 10-year-old, who was violated by a teacher of the madrasa.

The HC bench of Justice JBM Hassan and Justice Razik-Al-Jalil refused to grant bail to Abdur Rashid, saying that he should have handed over the teacher, who violated the student of the madrasa, to police.

Rather, the principal beat up the child for "damaging" the image of the madrasa by disclosing the incident and therefore, the principal is an equal offender and he cannot get bail in the case at this moment, it said.

The HC bench rejected the bail petition considering that it was not presented properly, Deputy Attorney General Kazi Mynul Hasan told The Daily Star.

Lawyer Ruhul Quddus Kazal appeared for the accused.

The 10-year-old was a student of At-Tamrin International Hifzul Quarn Madrasa at Chandraganj upazila in Laxmipur.
