Three held for illegal sale of TCB foodstuff

Detectives on Monday night arrested three persons in the capital's Mirpur for illegally trading TCB supplied foodstuff, meant for poor people, instead of selling those in open market sale (OMS) trucks.

On information, a team arrested Md Mamun, manager of Rupam Traders, along with its employee Jaker Ahmed and seized 1,956 litres of edible oil, 80kg of dates, and 300kg of chickpea, said Mohorom Ali, assistant commissioner of the Detective Branch of police (west), yesterday.

But the owner Jahangir Hossain, a TCB (Trading Corporation of Bangladesh) agent, went into hiding.

In preliminary interrogation, the duo confessed that Jahangir used to sell the products at three points in Kafrul and Bhasantek only for an hour instead of selling those from 9:00am to 5:00pm. He used to store the commodities in his warehouse and later sell those to different traders.

Following their information, the DB team arrested Kamal Hossain of Rina Traders in Bhasantek and recovered 40 sacks full of sugar, with TCB's label, which he bought from Jahangir.

The DB members also seized a truck that Jahangir used for distributing the commodities among his accomplices, Mohorom added.

Detectives are investigating whether any TCB official is involved with the offenders. A case was filed.
