Turag boundary pillars to stay as it is: SC
The Supreme Court yesterday upheld the government's setting up of demarcation pillars in the Turag river, following a July 24, 2014 High Court order, by recovering from a real estate organisation nine acres of land grabbed in the capital's Mohammadpur.
It also lifted a status quo order on land possession in the area which the HC issued on February 22 following a writ petition filed by Amin and Momin Company seeking the demarcation pillars' removal.
The four-member SC Appellate Division bench headed by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha passed the order after disposing of an appeal filed by Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh challenging the HC status quo order.
HRPB lawyer Manzill Murshid told The Daily Star that the pillars cannot be removed following yesterday's order. No lawyer was present for Amin and Momin Company.
