Two held for running fake FB accounts as mayor Taposh

Detectives claimed to have arrested two individuals who deceived people -- opening Facebook accounts as Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh -- and offered jobs.

The two -- Md Jakaria and Ekramul Haque Raju -- were arrested from Rangpur and Gazipur on Sunday, said AKM Hafiz Akhter, additional commissioner (detectives) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.

The arrestees were identified after a case was filed with Shahbagh Police Station under Digital Security Act on January 1, he said at a press briefing yesterday at DB office on Minto Road in Dhaka.

In primary interrogation, Jakaria admitted that he opened a fake account and used to pose as Taposh virtually, to demand money from people in name of offering jobs.

The money was collected through a mobile money transfer service number registered in Ekramul's name, the DB official added.

Meanwhile, detectives said they arrested a man, Saiful Islam, from Rangpur on charge of hacking Facebook IDs of people and taking money from their friends and acquaintances.
