Utility tunnel in city mulled

The government has taken plan to build a common utility tunnel or common duet in Dhaka north and south city corporations to increase civic amenities in the capital, LGRD Minister Engineer Khandker Mosharraf Hossain told the parliament yesterday.

Replying to lawmakers' queries, he said there are overhead and underground cables and lines of different utility services including water supply, storm sewerage, electricity, gas, telephone and optical fibre in the city.

In a written reply, the minister said there will be no need to dig roads and thus public sufferings as well as repair expense of the government will be lessened once the plan is implemented.
