Work starts in Nov

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader yesterday said the construction works of the 2nd Kanchpur Bridge and the second Meghna-Gumti Bridge will begin in November this year.

The government had decided to construct the bridges at a cost of Tk 8,000 crore to ease the movement of vehicular traffic on the highways, he told the reporters while visiting Kanchpur in Narayanganj.

Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is financing for the construction of the two bridges, he added.

Regarding charging additional bus fare, Quader said he would take necessary steps against bus owners, drivers and transport workers for taking extra fares. He inspected some passenger buses and directed the officials concerned to take legal action against those realising extra fare.
