Rumours about coronavirus: 1 held in Chattogram

Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested one person from Chattogram city for allegedly spreading rumours about coronavirus on social media.

The arrestee, Kamrul Hasan Rumi, 39, uploaded a Facebook status which claimed four children from Halishahar area in Chattogram were infected with coronavirus, our Chattogram correspondent reports quoting Mashkur Rahman, media officer of Rab-7.

Rumi—who is a businessperson—was arrested near MA Aziz Stadium last night by a team of Rab-7.

The Rab official said no one can tell if someone is coronavirus positive unless they are tested.

A case will be filed against the man either under the ICT act or infectious diseases prevention act, Mashkur Rahman added.
