With harsh sanctions being imposed on Russia, it has no choice but to seek friendship with other states that had been abandoned by US and Europeans. Russia needs friends. Win-win situation for the both, I suppose.

There is a strategic shift in South Asia as Russia showed serious interest in establishing cooperation with Pakistan on defense in addition to India. Everyone is fully aware of the strategic equation present between two nuclear weapon states India and Pakistan along with US involvement.
