10 fishermen jailed

A mobile court here yesterday sentenced 10 fishermen to six months' imprisonment each for fishing with illegal current nets in Naldanga upazila of the district. The convicts are Jamil Hossain, Ramzan Ali, Momin Hossain, Rezaul Karim, Liton Chandra, Prodip Chandra, Bishwajit Chandra, Biren Kumar, Subrata Chandra and Mamun Hossain. They hail from different villages in the upazila. Officer-in-Charge Mustafa Kamal of Naldanga Police Station said a mobile court led by Executive Magistrate Sharmin Akhter Jahan conducted a drive in Halti Beel area and detained them while they were fishing with Badai jal (locally assembled current nets). Later, the arrestees were produced before the court that handed down the verdict, the OC added.
