15 hurt in clash

At least 15 people were injured in a clash between two rival groups of a mosque committee at Suklampur village in Surma upazila of Sylhet district on Friday. The injured include Mezbah Ullah, 35, Waris Ali, 55, Tareq Ahmed, 20, Sohel Ahmad, 25, Sebul, 17, Kanu Mian, 50, Haji Abdul Quaium, 60, Taju Ahmed, 30, Rais Ullah, 55, Jihad, 20, and Kawsar, 32, of the village. They were admitted to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital. Makhon Miah, chairman of Mollargaon Union Parishad, said Abdul Qayyum sent some people to collect rice from every household for mosque development. The clash took place when one Abdul Aziz and his son asked the collectors whether the rice would actually be used for mosque development. On information, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control, said Nasir Ahmed, assistant commissioner of Sylhet Metropolitan Police.
