15 Shibir men held with bombs, leaflets
Fifteen activists of Islami Chhatra Shibir (ICS) were arrested with bombs and leaflets from a school in Mirpur upazila of the district yesterday.
Sohel Reza, additional superintendent of police (ASP) told this correspondent that members of the Detective Branch (DB) of Police, acting on a tip-ff, raided Darus Salam Academy, a Jamaat-run school, where the Shibir men were holding a 'secret' meeting at around 11:45am.
The detectives arrested the Shibir activists and seized six bombs, 70 leaflets from their possession, the ASP added.
The arrestees are Shamim Ahmed, 21, son of Amzad Ali, and Rahman Ali, 30, son of Abdul Hakim of Bagerhat district; Mahfuzur Rahman, 18, son of Raihan Uddin, Forhad Hossain, 22, son of Abu Zafar, and Osman Ali, 23, son of Aman Ullah of Mirpur upazila of Kushtia; Rezaul Karim, 25, son of Abdul Mannan of Kumarkhali upazila, and Rashidul Islam, 23, son of Abul Hashem of Daulatpur upazila of Kushtia; Shahin Ahmed, 22, son of Sakhawat Ali of Moulvibazar district, Amzad Ali, 21, son of Abdul Hafiz, Hemanul Islam, 33, son of Ali Hawlader, and Mokarram Ali, 22, son of Mofarraf Ali of Gopalganj district; Golam Mostafa, 22, son of Mofizur Rahman of Sailakupa upazila, and Mamun-ul-Haq, 26, son of Shams-Ul-Haq of Jhenidah district; Kobir uddin, 20, son of Jamsher Ali, and Mosharraf Parvez, 24, son of Mobarak Ali of Pangsha upazila of Rajbari district.
Police claimed that the Shibir activists gathered there from different parts of the country to work out a plan to carry out subversive activities in the district.
After preliminary interrogation, law enforcers yesterday produced the Shibir men in a court that sent them to jail.
