6 cops suspended on bribery charge in Thakurgaon
Six policemen were suspended on Tuesday afternoon on charge of taking bribes from motorbike owners.
The withdrawn policemen are sub-inspectors Nuru Alam and Md Mamun, and constables Abdul Jalil, Monoranjan, Mostafa Kamal and Md Shohag.
The suspension order came after a primary investigation found that the policemen had taken bribes.
The policemen intercepted several motorbikes on Pirganj-Ranishankoil road at Gogar village in Ranishankoil upazila on Thursday evening in the name of conducting drive against motorbikes plying without registration.
As the policemen were releasing the bikes after taking bribes, the villagers protested and confined the cops in a room of Gogar High School.
On information, Sukumar Mohanta, officer-in-charge of Ranishankoil Police Station and M Shawkat Hossain, officer-in-charge of Pirganj, went to the spot and freed them through arbitration where local public representatives were also present.
On Friday evening, Superintendent of Police Farhad Ahmed ordered to close them to district police lines.
Contacted, the SP said they were suspended as they were found guilty after primary investigation.
