BCL office torched in Joypurhat
A union level BCL office in Joypurhat Sadar upazila was vandalised and torched allegedly by Jamaat-Shibir and BNP men on Monday night.
At least five activists of the ruling-party-backed student body were injured during the attack. They are Azizul Hakim, 22, Sumon Hossain, 23, Rony Ahmed 24, Sohel Rana, 22 and Saidul Islam 25.
Sumon Saha, general secretary of Joypurhat district BCL, claimed that local Jamaat-Shibir and BNP activists carried out the attack when BCL men of Mohammadabad union unit were holding a meeting in the office.
Witnesses said a group of people, equipped with wooden sticks and iron rods, vandalised the office and set it ablaze at around 9:00pm.
Being informed, police went to the spot and brought the situation under control while firefighters doused the fire. Two BNP men named Azizar Rahman and Anwarul Ali were arrested in connection with the attack.
Anwar Hossain, officer-in-charge of Joypuraht Sadar Police Station, said law enforcers are looking for the rest of the attackers.
