Clash over capture of water body leaves one dead, 50 injured
A man was killed and 50 others were injured in a clash between two groups over capture of a water body at Manduri village in Baniachang upazila of Habiganj District on Saturday.
The dead was identified as Junab Ali, 40, son of Mahfil Miah of the village.
The Injured were admitted to Baniachang Upazila Health complex and Habiganj Sadar Hospital.
Locals said there had been a longstanding dispute between Shamsu Miah, former chairman of Manduri Union Parishad, and Mahtab Khan, a resident of the village, over catching fish in the water body.
The clash ensued when the supporters of the two groups went to the water body for fishing at around 9:00am.
The two groups, equipped with lethal weapons, locked in a clash, leaving Junab Ali, a supporter of Shamsu Mia, dead on the spot and 50 others from both sides injured.
On information, police went to the spot, dispersed the clashing groups and brought the situation under control.
No case in connection with the incident was filed with Baniachang Police Station as of yesterday afternoon, said Officer-in-Charge Nirmalendu Chakraborty.
