Cop killed in Khilkhet road crash

An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of police was killed and a constable injured as a speeding truck hit them in Khilkhet area of Dhaka this morning.

The deceased was identified as Al Amin, 28, said Mozammel Hossain, nayeb of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital police outpost.

The truck hit the duo around 3:00am when they were on duty near Khilkhet Bazar, leaving them critically injured, the police official said.

They were immediately rushed to Kurmitola General Hospital. As Al Amin's condition deteriorated, he was taken to the DMCH in the morning where doctors declared him dead, Mozammel added.

Confirming the incident, Nazrul Islam, officer-in-charge of Khilkhet Police Station, said the law enforcers seized the truck and also arrested its driver, Ashraful Islam, and his helper from the scene.

Identity of the helper could not be known immediately.
