Criminal killed in mob beating

A criminal was killed and three others injured in a mob beating at Simuliya village in Jhikargachha upazila of Jessore district early yesterday. The deceased was identified as Lalu Miah, 43, of Meherpur district town. Khabir Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Jhikargachha Police Station, said a gang of 10/12 criminals looted Tk 1.70 lakh from a church at the village around 1:00am. Hearing the shouts of the church residents, locals rushed to the spot and caught four of the gang while others managed to flee.The villagers beat up the four severely, leaving Lalu dead on the spot and three others --Monirul Islam and Amirul Islam of Faridpur, and Sujan of Kamarkandi -- injured. On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Jessore Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy. The injured were admitted to Jessore Medical College Hospital.
