Drug addict kills mother

A woman was killed allegedly by her drug addict son at Basudevpur village in Biral upazila of the district yesterday.

Police arrested accused Shariful Islam, 35, of the village, in connection with the incident.

The deceased was identified as Sharifa Begum, 65, wife of late Mofiz Uddin of the area.

Locals said Shariful often tortured his mother Sharifa for money to buy drug.

On refusal, Shariful yesterday morning forcibly took away a goat from his mother for selling it to have money to satisfy his addiction.

When the mother tried to prevent Shariful, he beat her mercilessly, leaving her dead on the spot.

Later, locals caught Shariful and handed him over to police, said Taposh Chandra Pandit, officer-in-charge of Biral Police Station. 

The body was sent to Dinajpur Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy, the OC said, adding that a murder case was filed, accusing Shariful.
