Fake doctor caught in Pabna

Members of Rapid Action Batalion (Rab) arrested a fake doctor from Ichhamati Clinic, a leading private clinic in Pabna town, yesterday.

The arrestee, Md Golam Mostafa, 44, son of Ibrahim Sarkar of Aramghata village in Khulna Sadar upazila, had been working as a doctor at the clinic for a long time, although he has no medical certificate, Rab said.

"Acting on a tip-off, a team of Rab in the guise of patients caught Golam Mostafa when he was checking the patients at the clinic," said Md Abdul Hai, commander of Rab-12 Pabna camp. The arrestee could not show medical certificate or a licence as medical practitioner, the Rab commander said.

Mostafa also worked at different clinics in other districts during the last two years, Rab sources said. Abdur Rahman, owner of the clinic, managed to escape from the spot during the drive.

Pabna Civil Surgeon Dr Shahed Md Sadikul Islam said the district health administration had earlier fined different clinics for not having qualified doctors, but most of them still do not comply with the requirement.
