Five to die for murder in Bagerhat

A court here on Monday sentenced five people to death for killing a youth in 2009.

The convicts are Rintu Meer, son of Shahadat Meer,  Fakir Ziauddin Zia, son of Khokon Fakir, Mannan Meer, son of Mansur Meer,  Fayezul Chowdhury, son of Tofazzel Chowdhury, and Sheikh Alfaz Hossain Rubel, son of Sheikh Abul Hossain.They all hail from Sundarghona village under Sadar upazila.  

Judge Md Mahiduzzaman of Bagerhat Additional District and Sessions' Judge's Court-1 also fined the convicts Tk 10,000 each.

According to the prosecution, a gang led by Rintu killed his cousin Taj Meer, 25, on June 29, 2009. 

Later, the victim's mother filed a case with Bagerhat Model Police Station, accusing five people, including Rintu. 

After examining witnesses and evidence, the judge found them guilty and pronounced the verdict.
