House gutted in fire

A devastating fire gutted properties worth around Tk 30 lakh at village Futanir Bazar in Saghata upazila of the district yesterday. The fire originated from an electric short circuit at the house of one Jaharul Islam in the area. The fire soon engulfed five rooms of the house, and within half an hour, all the belongings, including furniture, fridge, TV set, cash and ornaments were reduced to ashes. On information, a fire fighting unit from Gaibandha rushed to spot and doused the blaze. Upazila Nirbahi Officer Safiuzzaman Bhuiyan, and Golam Shaheed Ranju, chairman of the upazila parishad, visited the area and allocated three and half bundles of CI sheets and Tk 10 thousand to the fire affected family.
