Housewife murdered for 'dowry'

A housewife was beaten to death by her husband and in-laws allegedly for dowry at Torabganj village in Kamalnagar upazila of the district on Wednesday.
The deceased is Yesmin Akter Sweety, wife of Sourav Hossain of the village.
Police quoted victim's family members as saying that Sourav, son of Tariqul Islam, married Sweety, daughter of Mayen Uddin of Gourinagar village in Laxmipur Sadar upazila, three years ago.
Sourav had been putting pressure on Sweety's family for dowry since the marriage, added police. 
Failing to realise the money, Sourav and his family members locked in an altercation with Sweety over the issue. At one stage, they beat up Sweety mercilessly, leaving her dead on the spot.
Being informed by neighbours, police went to the spot, recovered the body and sent it to Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy, said AK Azad, sub-inspector of Kamalnagar Police Station. Sourav and his family members went into hiding soon after the incident, the SI added.
