Housewife stabbed for dowry

A housewife was stabbed allegedly by her husband for dowry in Sadar upazila of Habiganj district on Friday night.
The injured is Swapna Akhter, 20, daughter of Keramot Ali of Barapoita village. She was admitted to Habiganj Sadar Hospital.
Police and family sources said Swapna married Russel Miah, 25, son of Jitu Miah of the upazila, six months ago.
After their marriage, Russel often tortured Swapna for Tk one lakh as dowry, Md Nazim Uddin, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station, quoted neighbour as saying
Last week, Russel beat up Swapna following an altercation over the issue. After the incident, she went to her parents' house.
At around 10:00pm on Friday, Russel along with his some aides went to his in-laws' house and again put pressure on Swapna for dowry.
As she refused to comply with the demand and asked Russel to leave the home, he stabbed her and fled the scene.
Keramot Ali, father of the victim, yesterday filed a case, accusing Russel, said the OC.
