Mayor sued for 'attempted rape'

The mayor of Shahjadpur municipality in Sirajganj district has been sued on charge of attempting to rape a councillor's wife.

Accused Md Nazrul Islam, also vice president of the upazila unit of BNP, went into hiding soon after filing of the case.

The victim's husband, a councillor of the municipality, filed the case under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act on Monday, said Md Rezaul Islam, officer-in-charge of Shahjadpur Police Station.
