Petrol bomb attack on bus, 7 Jamaat men held

The joint force in an overnight drive on Wednesday arrested seven leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami from different places in connection with the petrol bomb attack on a bus on Dhaka-Chittagong highway in Chandina upazila on Tuesday night.

The arrestees are Moulana Abul Bashar, 63, ameer of Jamaat Chandina upazila unit, Rafiqul Islam, 35, ameer of Jamaat Barkamta union unit under Debidwar upazila, and Jamaat activists Obaidullah, 48, Muhibullah, 50, Omar Faruk, 20, Abdur Razzak, 35, and Nayan, 35.

Prabir Kumar Roy, assistant sub-inspector of Chandina Police Station, filed a case against 15 named and 15/20 unnamed people on Wednesday night.

The arrestees were produced in the Court of Senior Judicial Magistrate Sajjad Hossain in Comilla yesterday. The court sent them to jail.

Seven people were burned in a petrol bomb attack on a running bus near Bangladesh Jute Research Centre on Dhaka-Chittagong highway at Chandina around 11:45pm.

Meanwhile, a five-member probe committee, headed by Additional District Magistrate Md Golamur Rahman, was formed to investigate the incident.
