Robbers loot 2 houses in Manikganj

Armed robbers looted gold ornaments and money from a two-storeyed house at Kangsha village in Singair Municipality area of the district early yesterday.

Expatriate Khokon Mia said 10-12 robbers entered his residence on the ground floor at around 2:00am after breaking the lock of the collapsible gate. They looted Tk 30, 000 and two tolas of gold ornaments. He said nobody was in the house at that time. 

The robbers then armed entered the first floor by breaking open the door. They beat up the house owner Selim Hossain, proprietor of Millennium Traders of Singair Bazar, when he tried to resist them. At gun point, the robbers looted cash Tk 7.5 lakh and 13 tolas of gold ornaments. 

Later, neighbours rushed to the house and took injured Selim Hossain to Singair Upazila Health Complex. He was later shifted to a private clinic in Dhaka.

Aminul Islam, inspector (investigation) of Singair Police Station, said police visited the spot and are trying to arrest the robbers and recover the looted cash and goods.

Away in Laxmipur, police arrested a robber along with a rifle from Boyarchar area of Ramgati upazila early yesterday, reports UNB.

The arrestee, Badsha Miah, was wanted in several cases, including for robbery and abduction, filed with Ramgati Police Station.

Mohammad Iqbal Hossain, officer-in-charge of the police station, said law enforcers, acting on secret information, conducted a drive in the area at around 3:00am while a gang of robbers was preparing for committing a robbery.

Police arrested Badsha while others managed to flee, sensing the presence of the law enforcers. They also seized a rifle from his possession, OC added.
