A ruling party man has started building a market in Dashpara bus stand area under Baufal municipality, grabbing land owned by Abdur Rob Gazi of the area.

Gazi said Masudur Rahman, a member of Dashpara union parishad and also former member of the union parishad, went to the spot on Thursday with a gang of 30/40 people and started building illegal structures on around 14 decimals of land.

Locals said as Gazi and his family men tried to stop the construction work, the gang members beat them up, leaving at least three people injured.

Of the injured, Asaduzzaman, 23, son of Rob Gazi, is under treatment at Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital, while Ruma Begum, 28, niece of Rob Gazi, and Achia Begum, 70, took primary treatment in a local clinic.

Rob Gazi submitted a complaint to Baufal Police Station on September 27 regarding the matter.

Locals alleged that Masudur Rahman was general secretary of Dashpara union unit of BNP and he joined AL a year ago.

Alleged occupier, Masudur Rahman, said, "I didn't occupy the land. I am building the market on my own land." But he failed to show valid documents to local journalists.

Contacted, Masuduzzaman, officer-in-charge of Baufal Police Station, said "I came to know the matter, and asked Masud to stop the construction work on the land."

"We will take necessary steps after proper investigation," the OC added.
