Three get life for killing youth

A Sylhet court yesterday sentenced three people to life imprisonment for killing a youth in Kamalganj upazila of Moulvibazar in 2012.

The court also fined the convicts Tk 10,000 each, in default, they are to suffer one year more in jail.

The convicts are Azadur Rahman, 55, his son Jewel Ahmed, 25, and nephew Abdus Samad Rubel, 26, of Patanushar village in the upazila.

According to the case statement, on August 29 in 2012, Azadur along with his family members killed Abdul Mazid allegedly for having an affair with Azadur's daughter.

Later, Mazid's father Abdur Rahman filed a case, accusing 11 people with Kamalganj Police Station. After investigation, police submitted the charge-sheet on August 8 in 2013.

After examining the records and witnesses, Judge Makbul Ahsan of Speedy Trial Tribunal, Sylhet delivered the verdict yesterday afternoon.

The court also acquitted eight other accused as the charges brought against them could not be proved.
