‘Domer Madar’ marks 80th show with three-day theatre festival
A three-day theatre festival will mark the 80th staging of “Domer Madar”, beginning May 6 at the Experimental Theatre Hall of the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in Dhaka.
Titled “Domer Madar Theatre Festival: Journey to 80”, the programme will feature five performances of the production between May 6 and May 8. Shows are scheduled daily at 5:30pm and 7:30pm.
Written by Sadhana Ahmed and directed by Irene Parveen Lopa, the play is produced by Natyam Repertory.

Drawing on folk traditions, the production explores a spiritual quest centred on followers of a mystic figure, blending indigenous performance styles with contemporary theatrical language. The narrative engages with philosophical questions around the relationship between the human soul and the divine.
The cast includes Shishir Rahman, Parveen Akhter Paru, Lita Khan, Shubhashish Dutta Tanmoy, Shakil Ahmed, Tarak Nath Das, Amitabh Rajib and Monohar Chandra Das, among others. Music is led by Parimal Majumdar, with stage and lighting design by Junayed Yusuf.
Organisers say the milestone staging reflects the production’s sustained audience engagement within Bangladesh’s contemporary theatre circuit.
