Eagerly waiting for ‘Mohanagar 3’: Anirban

“I did a very small piece of work with Nipun. At the very end of ‘Mohanagar 2’, he introduced a character named Rajab Ali,” the actor said in a recent interview with BBC Bangla. “Afterwards, Nipun told me that in the third season, Mosharraf Karim and I would carry the whole story.”

He added, with a hint of disappointment, “I still haven’t received any update about it. At one point, there was an initiative suggesting that it would finally happen. But now, I haven’t heard anything. I’m eagerly waiting to work on it.”

The actor made a cameo appearance in Ashfaque Nipun’s acclaimed web series “Mohanagar 2” as MP Rajab Ali.

When “Mohanagar" was first released in 2021, it quickly sparked widespread discussion among audiences. Following the success of the first instalment, “Mohanagar 2” premiered in 2023 and further intensified viewers’ interest in the story.

The final scene of the second season left audiences with even more questions. In the closing episode, Mosharraf Karim’s character, OC Harun, is shot, while Indian actor Anirban Bhattacharya appears unexpectedly as MP Rajab Ali — a twist that fuelled speculation about a third season.

Since then, anticipation for “Mohanagar 3” has continued to grow.

Shortly after the release of the second instalment, Anirban shared a photo with director Ashfaque Nipun on social media, writing in the caption, “The story hasn’t ended here! See you very soon!” The post further heightened fans’ expectations.

However, that “very soon” has yet to arrive.

Speaking to BBC Bangla, Anirban revealed that his role in “Mohanagar 2” was intentionally brief and designed to introduce a larger storyline for the future.

During the interview, Anirban also expressed his admiration for Bangladesh’s film and entertainment industry. Praising the work of Bangladeshi actors and filmmakers, he said he is a fan of Chanchal Chowdhury, Mosharraf Karim, and Jaya Ahsan.

He also expressed interest in working with young filmmaker Nuhash Humayun. Jokingly, Anirban remarked, “I’ve already submitted applications to those I'm willing to work in Bangladesh.”
