Modhumita Cinema Hall to celebrate Dhaka’s 416 years with film festival
Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has organised a month-long festival titled “Hridoye Dhaka 416” to celebrate 416 years of the capital under the theme “Utshobe, Gorbe, Dayitte”. As part of the celebrations, a week-long film festival is set to begin at Modhumita Cinema Hall in the capital.
DSCC Administrator and freedom fighter Abdus Salam shared details of the festival at a press conference held at Madhumita Cinema Hall yesterday.
Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan will inaugurate the festival on August 22. The opening ceremony will be chaired by Abdus Salam, while State Minister for Cultural Affairs Ali Newaz Mahmud Khayyam and Dhaka-7 lawmaker Hamidur Rahman will attend as special guests.
A total of 13 films will be screened during the week-long festival. The programme will open with “Mukh O Mukhosh” at 6:00pm on August 22.
On August 23, “Nawab Sirajuddaula” will be screened at 3:00pm, followed by “13 No Feku Ostagar Lane” at 6:00pm. The following day will feature “Jibon Theke Neya” at 3:00pm and “Nantu Ghotok” at 6:00pm.
On August 25, audiences can watch “Ashikkhito” at 3:00pm and “Rongbaaz” at 6:00pm. The fifth day will feature “Sabuj Sathi” at 3:00pm, followed by “Nacher Putul” at 6:00pm.
On the sixth day, “Durdesh” will be screened at 3:00pm and “Dohon” at 6:00pm. The festival will conclude on August 28 with “Dost Dushman” at 3:00pm and “Bodhu Biday” at 6:00pm.
Alongside the final day’s screenings, 58 individuals from the cultural arena—including artistes, directors, writers, musicians, music directors, lyricists and cinematographers—will be honoured for their contributions.
To oversee the festival, DSCC has formed a five-member committee headed by Akhtar Unnesa Shiuli, Regional Executive Officer of DSCC Zone 2 and deputy secretary. Actors Dilara Zaman, Abdul Aziz and Shiba Shanu, along with journalist Ahmed Tepantar, are serving as members of the committee.
